Discovery means learning new things every day. For example, it is like turning the composting wheel in a garden to decompose the fruit or watching an oak tree grow for years to 40 feet high. It is looking with a magnifying glass to see if a worm has 100 segments. I used to bend through the dirt. That is what discovery means to me. Wait until you discover something! See you later.

Crusie Arcade Game - Wheel of Creeps:
Research Paper
Identify the Problem How can we, as Caine has inspired, demonstrate through teamwork our imagination, determination, and passion for creativity and innovation, with our own arcade constructions? Explore What Makes an Effective Professional Arcade Game?
In library we are studying arcade games to make our own Crusie Arcade Games. The arcade game I chose is Rollin’. The creator of Rollin’ is Burkhard Ratheiser. Play the game by clicking the game screen to begin. There is a ball that starts rolling on a platform. The ball has to be kept away from the black holes or some time will be lost. The arrow keys control the ball. The ball must follow the platform to win the game. The game is won by getting to the end of the platform to begin a harder level. The rules of the game are displayed in the bottom left corner. I would give this game a 4 out of 4 star rating. If you win the game it will say Congratulations.
To make the game I would use cardboard, tape, a ball, scissors, and something to push the ball back and forth. To build it, it would cost $35.00. To buy it, it would cost $ 20.00.
Design Brief What is the Concept Design of My Crusie Arcade Game? We created a game and called it Wheel of Creeps. We did this because Mr. May, our Discovery teacher, challenged us to make an arcade game. We called it Wheel of Creeps because you spin the wheel to determine which creep you have to find. You play our game by spinning the wheel and finding a matching creep in the box. Our level of difficulty is a 3 out of 4 star rating. You win the game by finding all of the creeps. When you win you get a little certificate. The instructions are located on the side of the box.
On our blueprint we show our main platform and 8 small finding cards. The tall piece is where our wheel is placed; on the wheel are the 8 creeps we have chosen. On the larger platform we have instructions, slots for tickets, and credits holes.
We have the following features on our game: 8 small finding (creep) cards, one spinning wheel, unlimited certificates, tickets, credits, timer, and fun passes. You go around the boxes to find the creeps. You need cardboard, tape, markers, Sharpies, scissors, mechanical pencil, printer, paper, and bottle caps to build our game. It would probably take about a month to build (if you could work on it every day). Some problems we foresee are that we think the wheel might get jammed, the tape will not stick, and things may not remain where they need to be.

What were the Results of Testing Our Game?
Examiner: Mrs. Koska
Date: 1/31/13
Praise: I like that you are inside giving clues, but you are cold.
Question: Do you win a ticket every time you find a creep?
Polish: Maybe the clues could be written on the index cards on the box. I would only give 5 turns to win 5 tickets.
Student Comment: We put in a door on the side of the game called Wheel-O-Creeps so we could easily get inside. Yes, you do win a ticket every time you find a creep. If we put clues on the index cards on the box it would give it away where the creeps were.
Examiner: Mrs. McCaffery
Date: 1/28/2013
Praise: Your game was well thought out and fun to play. The idea of the wheel and hiding creeps was simple but fun.
Question: Why did you decide to put one in plain site?
Polish: A couple of things that you might consider looking at for your game.
1. I felt like 5 minutes was a really long time to play the game. 1 or 2 minutes might have been a little bit better and I might not have gotten through all of the creeps. It would make the game more challenging.
2. Giving the clues right away made it really easy to find the creeps. You might consider not giving the clues to someone until after they have failed to find the creep twice.
Student Comment: Well, it was hard to work with Wyeth because we had different ideas. But our outcome was an awesome game called Wheel-O-Creeps. We decided to put one creep in plain site because it would be harder to play the game. We felt like 5 minutes was a really long time to play the game, too, so we changed the time to 2 minutes. We are still going to give out clues before they look for the creep because mainly little kids are going to play.
Examiner: Mr. Brown
Date: 2/4/13
Praise: Ingenious and creative.
Question: can you trade up or down for prizes?
Polish: need to
1. Balance wheel
2. Allow only one look per hint
Student Comment: I also think we were Ingenious and creative with our game, Wheel-O-Creeps. We had great outcomes with our game. No, you cannot trade up or down for prizes. We should balance the wheel, but we do not need to because we now made it so it will stop on one creep instead of rolling back over to a certain creep.

Make It Better How Can We Make the Crusie Arcade Game Better? Reflection on Project
What can we do to improve our Arcade Creation?
We can improve our arcade game by making it more colorful.
Specifically, how would we do this?
By getting colorful duct tape.
Reflection on Process
What did you learn to do with the Crusie Arcade Project?
I learned that you can make things stiffer by adding supports.
What do you know now that you didn’t know before doing the Project?
Now, I know how a wheel and axle work. Also, how to make an orthographic design.
What can you do now that you couldn’t before doing this project?
Make a wheel and axle.
What did you like about the project that helped your learning?
That I can now make an arcade game out of cardboard, for I did not think I could do that.
What could have been done differently to help your learning?
I could have made a totally different arcade game that would have taught me about different parts than the wheel and axle that we used. A Final Reflection: What can we do to improve? We can improve our arcade game, Wheel-O-Creeps, by making it more colorful. We can make it more colorful by getting colorful duct tape. I learned from doing this project that you can make two things stiffer by adding supports. Now I know how wheel and axles work. I also learned how to make an orthographic design and how to make a wheel and axle. I found out that I could make an arcade game out of cardboard for I did not think I could do that.
